SCALABLE DIMENSIONAL ART

Original hand-sculpted art transformed through 3D technology for
museums, architecture, interiors, and immersive environments.

FROM ORIGINAL ART TO MONUMENTAL SCALE

Hand-sculpted dimensional art transformed through 3D technology into large-scale installations for architecture, museums, interiors and immersive environments.

Every project begins with an original paper-sculpted painting by Michelle Larsen.

Through digital capture and 3D fabrication, the texture, movement and sculptural relief of the original artwork can be translated into dramatically larger dimensional forms—allowing a work created by hand on canvas to become part of an architectural or immersive environment.

THE ORIGINAL IS THE BEGINNING

Michelle Larsen developed a distinctive process of sculpting paper directly into dimensional forms, adhering them to a rigid support, hardening the surface and completing the work in oil.

The resulting originals extend dramatically beyond the support, with some relief reaching up to 8 inches in depth.

These sculptural surfaces provide the foundation for digital capture and large-scale 3D fabrication.

FROM 36 × 48 INCHES
TO 15 × 20 FEET

The dimensions of an original artwork can potentially be increased many times through digital capture and 3D fabrication.

A 36 × 48-inch original, for example, could be scaled to approximately 15 × 20 feet, transforming an intimate hand-sculpted painting into an architectural-scale dimensional installation.

Relief depth does not have to increase proportionally. Scale, depth, materials, fabrication and mounting can be engineered specifically for the intended environment.

This opens possibilities far beyond the traditional canvas.

ART BECOMES ENVIRONMENT

Large-scale dimensional works can be developed for:

Museums & Zoos
Permanent exhibits, wildlife environments, educational installations and interpretive spaces.

Architecture & Public Spaces

Statement walls, atriums, entrances, civic spaces and large architectural features.

Hospitality

Hotels, resorts, restaurants and destination environments.

Healthcare & Wellness

Dimensional nature-inspired installations for hospitals, wellness environments and healing spaces.

Entertainment & Immersive Environments
Theaters, attractions, themed environments and experiential installations.

Commercial Interiors
Corporate headquarters, executive spaces, flagship locations and feature installations.

HOW IT WORKS

01 — ORIGINAL ARTWORK

Every design originates with a hand-sculpted Michelle Larsen painting.

02 — DIGITAL CAPTURE

The dimensional surface is digitally captured to record the relief, texture and sculptural characteristics of the original.

03 — SCALE & ADAPT

The digital model can be enlarged and adapted for the dimensions, relief depth, materials and requirements of the intended environment.

04 — 3D FABRICATION

The work can then be fabricated in sections and assembled into a dimensional installation at architectural scale.

The original remains the artistic source—the technology provides a way for it to move beyond the canvas.

This approach creates a bridge between traditional hand craftsmanship and contemporary fabrication.

Rather than designing an installation entirely on a computer, each project begins with a physical work created by the artist's hand. Its irregularities, sculptural marks, textures and movement become part of the final dimensional environment.

The result is not simply an enlarged image.

It is an original work of art translated into space.

Projects may begin with an existing Michelle Larsen original or with a new work commissioned specifically for an environment.

BRINGING ART BEYOND THE CANVAS

Michelle Larsen Studios brings together original fine art, sculptural relief and advanced 3D fabrication to create new possibilities for dimensional environments.

From a hand-sculpted original to a monumental installation, the artwork retains the texture, movement and character that began in the artist's studio.

One original. Monumental possibilities.
