Michelle Larsen creates dimensional paper-sculpted oil paintings that bring art into physical space—combining the visual language of painting with the presence of sculpture.
Developed through Larsen’s own sculptural process, each original begins with paper that is shaped, adhered to a rigid surface, hardened, primed and completed in oil. The resulting forms extend dramatically from the surface, creating depth, shadow and movement that change as visitors experience the work from different perspectives.
These original dimensional works can also become the foundation for larger-scale installations—connecting art with storytelling, architecture, light and the surrounding environment.

ART THAT INVITES A CLOSER LOOK
Michelle Larsen creates original dimensional paintings that merge painting and sculpture into a single art form.
Each work begins with paper that is sculpted by hand directly onto a rigid surface using gel medium. As the sculpted paper dries, it hardens into a durable dimensional relief. The surface is then primed and finished in oil paint.
The resulting forms can extend several inches from the surface, creating physical depth, texture and shadow that change as visitors move around the artwork.
For museums and educational environments, that dimensional quality offers something particularly valuable: art that can become part of the visitor experience.

SCULPTED BY HAND
What appears at first to be a painting reveals itself differently when viewed up close.
Paper is individually manipulated and sculpted to create feathers, fur, foliage, petals, facial features and environmental forms. The sculpted surface is hardened, incorporated into the surface and completed with oil paint.
The technique was developed by Michelle Larsen through years of experimentation and creates artwork that occupies the space between painting and sculpture.
